Cardiff Gig Guide: Music, Beatboxing and Poetry

Weird and wonderful events and music to keep your toes toasty this week. Are there any events you think we’ve missed? Let us know! And there’ll be more next week. Happy January Cardiff!

Thursday 15: The Welsh Millennium Centre are hosting a free poetry and performance gig Rhyme and Reason. Tip up for 5:30 pm and head over to the Glanfa Stage to enjoy music and spoken word from across Wales!

Thursday 15: Are you the next Stephen Hawkins? Cardiff’s cosiest venue Gwdihŵ Café Bar is hosting a science competition called Fame Lab. Time to get your geek on and pitch a 3 minute genius idea! All drinks half price until 8pm.

Friday 16: Cafe Jazz: Bella Collins & the Blue warm the room with beautiful melodies and tickling rockabilly guitars. Entry £4

Friday 16: Cafe A Go Go at Gwdihŵ Café Bar: Three resident DJs James Parker, Mark Taylor and Eddie Crole spin the room through the spectrum of funk, soul, RnB, mod and acid jazz at £4 a pop.

Saturday 17: Full Moon Club: Welsh Beatbox Championships from 1pm- 3am hear mouths make magical bassey sounds including a set from Irish Champion Jayy Scorch Underwood

Sunday 18: The Glen Manby Quartet play Chapter Arts for a free evening of beautiful melodic jazz- how better to prepare yourself for the week ahead?!

Monday 19: The Welsh Millennium Centre put on a free afternoon of Performances from the University of Cardiff Music School starting at 1pm.

Tuesday 20: The Gate is home on Tuesday to an evening of the Philosophy Cafe. Kicking off at 8pm flick through pages of ideas and history as discussion turns to ‘Aristotle’s Poetics and Modern Drama’
